First long day

The Daily Scoop was open today for the first time from 11AM to 9 PM – a long day of trading. We were starting very slowly as it was raining during the morning and a persisting drizzle was still coming down at the opening time. Jenny put out the board that read “It is never too cold or wet not to have ice cream!” Nice…

Well, ice cream does not sell in the rain, so we were relieved that by early afternoon the weather was back to sunny summer, although overcast the temperature climbed to around 20 and stayed there. There was enough sunshine to entice people into the shop and buy, but more trade came with kids finishing school and deserving reward from parents after 3:30. This was a result of me dropping large numbers of flyers to schools and suggesting that they use them as “end of year” rewards for their good students. It worked well, and I also handed bunches of those to shop owners within short distance from our shop.

At 9 PM it was me and Josie still enjoying serving a few people coming out of the Indian Tandoori restaurant and wanting to get some desert. But many of them just came to look in, and we knew 9PM was as late as we wanted to be open. So we cleaned up and went home for a well deserved rest.
